Matt Dusk starring in Burnett Fox Show "The Casino"
Charismatic vocalist Matt Dusk makes waves
with debut CD TWO SHOTS on DECCA
July 6, 2004
Decca
released Two Shots on June 15th , the debut album by a new extraordinary
young vocalist, 25 year-old Matt Dusk. Hailing from Toronto, Canada,
Dusk is a performer who has it all – movie-star looks, velvety-smooth
vocals and the striking presence of a “Rat Pack” idol.
Featuring infectious standards and original songs, Two Shots has
a sophisticated, yet pleasantly familiar sound. A star in-the-making,
Dusk’s career is off to a roaring start. Originally scheduled
to hit stores in early 2004, Two Shots was pushed to a summer release
date to coincide with Matt’s role on the Fox TV show “The
Casino,” which premiered June 14th, and is produced by Mark
Burnett Productions (Survivor, The Apprentice).
Two Shots was recorded in Miami, Toronto and Abbey Road studios
in London, where a 42-piece string section from the Royal Philharmonic
Orchestra added luxuriant textures reminiscent of the heyday of
the big-band balladeers. The album takes its name from the song
Bono and The Edge wrote for Frank Sinatra prior to his death. Sinatra
never had the chance to record “Two Shots,” but Bono
gave his blessings for Dusk to give it a go. "I would have
to say that ‘Two Shots’ is one of my favorites on the
album because it involves two of my favorite artists of all time
and it’s an incredible song. Unfortunately Frank died before
he got the chance to record it, so U2 released it as a B-side on
the single “If God Will Send His Angels.” But it kind
of got lost in the woodwork, so it's a great honor for me to record
it."
Dusk’s material on Two Shots shows off the various dimensions
of his artistry. The windswept, autumnal feel of ‘Precious
Years’ seems to echo back to the days of epic ballads like
‘Days Of Wine And Roses’ or ‘It Was A Very Good
Year’. Of his self-penned tunes, Matt cites ‘Five’
as his favorite. "Five is simply a huge heart-wrenching song
of hopelessness," he says, sounding indecently cheerful. "It's
that feeling after a break-up, when you're absolutely hopeless.
I think the songs that most affect people are the slower and more
pensive ones."
The Casino, a new unscripted drama created and executive-produced
by reality titan Mark Burnett, premiered on Monday, June 14 (9:00-10:00
PM ET/PT) on Fox. The 13-episode series will provide an extraordinary
24/7, behind-the-scenes look at the real-life dramas unfolding at
the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, as its new owners,
Tim Poster and Tom Breitling take over the business and attempt
to bring back the glory of its “Rat Pack” heyday. Matt
Dusk will appear as a performer as well as himself during the course
of the series.
