Online Gambling Revenues Up Slightly in Delaware

2014-08-01 00:00:00

The revenues from online gambling in Delaware have been disappointing overall but the good news is that they are going up. The original estimate for revenue from online gambling in the state was far too optimistic but that was also the case with New Jersey estimates.

Since online gambling began last November in Delaware, the state had brought in about $1.3 million. The original estimate for the fiscal year was about $5 million. Those estimates were way off and now the estimate for fiscal year 2015 is $3.3 million.

The one positive for Delaware is that revenues were up from online casino games in the month of June. Revenues increased about 7% from revenues taken in May. The news was not as positive for online poker as the revenues from online poker fell dramatically. Part of the reason for the drop in online poker player was due to the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. The revenues should improve later this year when Delaware and Nevada poker players will be able to play together.

It has been interesting to see that the bulk of the revenue from online gambling in Delaware has come from online casino games. In the month of June, casino games made up 86% of the total revenue from online gambling.
