Online gambling may be illegal in South Korea but that does not mean it does not exist and that it is not popular. In fact the popularity of online casino gambling in South Korea, albeit illegal online casino gambling, has become a big problem for their society and government and the government has begun a tough and massive crackdown.

South Korea government officials announced that the National Police Agency will begin the crackdown and will target the top online casino gambling operators in the country.

South Korea government and law enforcement officials have discovered that nearly all of the online casino gambling activity that has been taking place has been coordinated by organized crime. The proliferation of organized crime in South Korea has become a bigger concern for the government and something that is going to be a focal point of focus for law enforcement in the months ahead. Online casino gambling has become the mother’s milk of organized crime with that money used to generate other forms of criminal activity and drug trafficking.

Although the penalty for running an illegal online casino was seven years in prison the penalty is going to be much more severe going forward. Operating an illegal online casino gambling website will now be punishable with life in prison.

South Korea has strict laws against citizens taking part in any form of gambling with weird laws that allow resorts to offer gambling to guests but not to local citizens. Organized Crime has filled the void and now the government is trying to put the toothpaste back in the tube.
