Although BlackDog are a casino with a somewhat chequered past, they have done their best recently to clean up their act. The casino management was changed in May 2005, and since then, they have worked hard to avoid some of the problems which have dogged (no pun intended!) them in the past. Powered by Diamond, there a choice of download or instant play software. The instant play version is nicely presented but basis, and lacks many of the bells and whistles normally found in casino software such as Autohold on the Video Poker Machines. The games themselves take a little while to load, and although basic seem very fair, I played for quite a while on my initial deposit before giving in to temptation and blowing it all on the five play video poker machine. There is a very basic selection of slots – mainly old school such as the 8 Ball Slot which is devoid of any features, and has some strange inconsistencies in the paytable such as both 2 and 3 8 balls paying 12 credits. The Hidden Loot Slot is a 3 line slot where you get to hold the symbols on the bottom reel for the best win and the reels spin twice (same as are found in Playtech casinos) . It has a nice Pacman style bonus round where you get to guide your little pirate figure round the maze to collect jewels and avoid the skeletons lurking on the levels, however as the jewels seemed to add up to just 10 coins and as it costs 15 a spin it seems hardly worth playing. Video Poker fans will find a varied selection of options including the aforementioned five play machine that swallowed all my credits, as well as the standard Deuces Wild, Jacks or Better, All American, Joker Poker and Aces and Eights, there is also a pyramid Poker option offering a further 8 variants. The casino is currently offering a free $20 for players to try out the games, and a first deposit earns a further 150% bonus. However a big drawback of this casino is that it does take credit cards, so you will need to use an alternate deposit method. In all, Blackdog is a reasonable little casino, what it lacks in sophistication, it certainly seems to make up in fairness.
